Marta Mąkolska,
Katie BaronThe September 2025 edition of our quarterly store openings design trends report explores the freshest inspiration shaping the future of physical brand spaces. Spanning destinations as diverse as Jakarta, Tokyo, Melbourne and Ibiza, key themes include experiential exhibitionism; high-concept music culture commerce; retail-ready fan fests; ingenious rehonings of the hybrid flagship; and disobedient décor.
Building on the ‘big brand energy’ designs detailed in Mythmakers: ‘Sceno-Stores’ & Re-Enlivening Legacy in Brand Spaces: 24/25, some prestige brands are stemming the luxury slowdown with immersive, heritage-riffing, tourist-targeting spatial experiences. Emphasising their creative-cultural gravitas, concepts upping the sensory ante (including a scented space devoid of visual components) and imaginatively gamified, ticketed experiences bring legacy to life.

Rising vinyl record sales worldwide (a predicted CAGR of 6.8% from 2025 to 2033, IMARC), led by the Asia-Pacific market, combined with a surging interest in sound culture (see Sonic Brand Strategies), is fuelling the boom of music-centring concept stores including in-store listening rooms and convivial ‘vinyl bars’. Designs range from private retreats to acoustically advanced concert-hall-referencing spaces.
Evolving the section Fanships & Aficionado Attractions in Brand Spaces, 8 Trends & Opportunities, 25/26 is a host of launches centring retail concepts for fans (ardent or casually curious) of bands, clubs (sports or music) or even festivals. These new examples of fan-tailing merge merch, archival treasures, and fan interaction.
New amenities such as beauty auditoriums, listening bars, in-store customisation labs and recycling workshop in-venue venues are recalibrating the hybrid flagship format. Outstripping the addition of spaces to drink and dine, these new concepts demonstrate a multilayered, social-connection-centring approach to retail, and more nuanced services propositions.
Echoing the section Ultra-Craft & Subversive Artisanship in Global Store Openings Design Trends Round-Up, Vol. 2 (June) 2025, this quarter also sees materiality increasingly being viewed through an unusual, idiosyncratically wonderful lens. In many cases, it’s a blend conceived to showcase avant-garde nous alongside non-pious, non-establishment expressions of joy and play.
