Summary

Seamless Smart Home Control

Consumer adoption of smart home systems is hampered by the challenges of fractured multi-device digital ecosystems and non-communicative interfaces. New protocols, tools and devices are emerging that promise to streamline smart home controls and make domestic digital systems more responsive to consumers’ needs.

Automated Eco Environments

In the UK, 41% of people think adopting a sustainable lifestyle is too complicated or too difficult (Deloitte, 2023), leading 45% to consider buying energy-efficient smart home solutions to simplify at-home environmentally friendly actions (Amazon, 2022). Cue products that bolster a home’s eco credentials but do so with minimal labour.

A Healthy Home

As healthcare and insurance costs rise globally, health-conscious consumers are investing in wellbeing-supportive home tech: 42% of Brits use technology to encourage exercise, and 38% use it to monitor their overall health (Samsung, 2023). Self-diagnostic and preventative tools are a particular bright spot.

The Privacy Problem

Dubious privacy of IoT (internet of things) devices puts trust in smart home tech at risk. Some 62% of American connected device users worry about being hacked (Bankless Times, 2023). Enhanced security standards will ensure user data remains secure, while inbuilt privacy features and educational resources are in demand.
