The Zeitgeist 2021
Research for our S/S 23 Directions began in early 2021, looking at the evolving zeitgeist – across the socio, cultural, political, technological and design innovation spheres – that would inform future product development. Here are some of our key takeaways.
- Diversity and inclusivity are hot topics
- Lockdown restrictions inspire global travel yearnings
- Interest in personal heritage is rising
- Crafts continue to enthral consumers
- Heirloom purchases inform sustainable spending
July 2021 - Stylus Direction Gather S/S 23
In 2021, we predicted that global crafts and heritage would be celebrated in this vibrant and creative look for the season, with the African diaspora forming a focus. Crafted textures, eclectic styling and rich colour mixes defined the trend.
2022 - Catwalks & Collections for S/S 23
In September 2022, our Gather forecast was confirmed in luxury designer collections that blended bold pattern with an emphasis on natural dyeing and printing techniques, handcrafted looks and an easy mash-up approach to styling. The African diaspora is a major influence, as is an anti-trend vibe which resonates in pieces with seasonless heirloom appeal.
