For its latest collaboration, Ikea has enlisted Dutch design studio Raw Color to create a joyous collection of furniture and homeware that it hopes will inspire more consumers to bring uplifting, colourful character into their homes.

Colour is a powerful tool for personal expression, with the ability to positively impact our wellbeing and enhance our living environments. But confidence in using it isn’t universal and achieving balance and cohesive colour pairings can be difficult or daunting for many. Ikea and Raw Color’s Tesammans collection is aimed at overcoming this, by making the use of colour in the home easier and more accessible.

The range – which consists of 18 pieces, including lighting, decorative accessories and textiles – is defined by the transformative nature of colour: how different shades interact with light, movement, materials and each other. A palette of 15 unexpected yet harmonious hues features across the products in surprising combinations. Colour is layered tonally or contrasted in playful graphic patterns.

Many of the pieces encourage interaction and play: boldly striped ceramic pots that nest together can be rotated to create different colour groupings, while a colour-blocked knitted blanket offers various looks depending on how it’s folded or draped. Moiré effects (where overlapping graphic patterns produce new dynamic visuals) are another key feature, demonstrating colour interactions in action. For instance, a functional storage unit on castors gives different colour perspectives as it’s moved around the home.

News of Tesammans – which will launch in Ikea stores worldwide in April – has so far been met with much excitement, highlighting the positive effect of colour and the general consumer need for more vibrancy and joy in everyday life – something we anticipate in our A/W 23/24 Colour & Material Direction Joy.

We discuss the shift away from ‘sad beige’ aesthetics in our Pop Culture Trend Drop, while our A/W 24/25 Direction Frolic indicates how optimistic colour palettes are set to evolve.
