Scream clubs are popping up in cities worldwide, offering (mostly young) people a communal outlet for stress. What began as a viral TikTok of people screaming together in Minneapolis has grown into a global phenomenon, with chapters in Chicago, Washington DC, London, Birmingham, and Cologne. Participants gather to scream together, seeking emotional release, solidarity, and community.

Scream clubs operate on a simple premise: participants meet at designated locations (mostly public parks), count down together, and yell in unison. Whilst people could always (in theory) scream in public, these clubs offer a group experience and a structured way of offloading frustration, regardless of the cause.

London scream club founder and influencer Mona Sharx notes that participants come to connect with others who experience frustrations in their lives and don’t have a support system to talk about their issues. In 2024, 57% of young Europeans aged 18-35 said they were moderately lonely, with 17% experiencing severe loneliness (Bertelsmann Stiftung, 2024). In the US, 31% of 18- to 29-year-olds reported always or often feeling lonely in 2024 (KFF, 2024). Meanwhile, 25% of British 16- to 24-year-olds reported that their social circles shrunk over the last three years (LBB, 2025) – signalling a cohort in need of a support system.

Some brands have already jumped to support scream clubs with local activations. See how Swiss athletic wear brand On and Scream Club Chicago organised a three-mile run and post-run scream to release pent up emotion in advance of the 2025 Chicago Marathon.
