Despite the expected 82.5% growth in spending on mental health apps in 2022 (Statista, 2022), 65% of Americans feel they don’t exercise enough, and 52% think they sleep too little (YouGov, 2022). Cue holistic health apps leveraging techniques like hypnosis to create better habits.

  • Hypnotising Habits: French app Oneleaf offers guided self-hypnosis programmes to help individuals address issues like quitting smoking, improving sleep and managing anxiety. Users can access its sessions from home for a $7.99 monthly subscription fee.

According to Oneleaf, three in four people respond well to guided self-hypnosis. This is validated by research suggesting 41% of Americans believe hypnosis works (YouGov, 2022) and 40% of Brits would consider hypnotherapy to change a bad habit (YouGov, 2018). To bolster the belief of sceptical consumers, Oneleaf promises refunds to unsatisfied users.

  • Fitness Meets Hypnosis: Gyms like New York’s Blink Fitness and London’s Gymbox now provide hypnosis to help “gym-haters learn to love it” and to motivate members to work out consistently (theoretically helping maintain high membership numbers in the process). The former launched its Gymnosis service in August 2022 and offers both virtual and in-person sessions (held at one of its Brooklyn locations).

Meanwhile, Gymbox debuted its Commitment Therapy in early 2023. The service comprises six classes where participants are taken through the four stages of hypnosis by a holistic hypnotherapist. The offering is available at two of the brand’s London outlets.

  • Self-Care On-Demand: Los Angeles health studio WellSet has an app with livestreamed and on-demand classes covering over 20 holistic self-care practices, including myofascial release, EFT tapping and self-hypnosis. Rather than address specific grievances, the classes aim to improve users’ overall quality of life. Notably, WellSet offers both individual and corporate subs It’s partnering with major US insurance providers to reduce individual membership costs (currently $20 a month) and increase access.
