As we spotlight in Beauty Solutions for the New Climate Era, the suncare market is snowballing as consumers seek new ways to protect themselves against rapidly rising UV radiation. Joining the wave, British seaside-based brand Haeckels’ new Seaweed Solar Protect SPF 50+ promises skin barrier support with anti-pollution properties via the company’s signature seaweed ingredient profile.

Designed to enhance resilience against the visible effects of pollution, it supports skin needs in varied environments (both urban and natural), catering to diverse climates, conditions and skin types and tones – areas where traditional sunscreens have often fallen short.

The serum format features dulse as its central ingredient, a seaweed abundant on the Kent coastline that thrives in marine environments and adapts to environmental variations. It helps the skin retain moisture and also has antioxidant and UV protecting properties. Oat extracts are also included to help renew and protect the natural skin barrier while boosting skin elasticity. Alongside this, Palmless Torula Oil (a biodesigned moisturising oil that leverages naturally occurring microorganisms and fermentation) is also included; it’s full of triglycerides that keep the skin smooth and supple, while their unique properties also boost sun protection.

With this launch, Haeckels emphasises the importance of “planetary skin” (planet-friendly skin) by locally sourcing a sustainable marine-based ingredient, and demonstrating that the health of our bodies is intrinsically linked to the health of our planet. Brands should take note and develop products that embody resilience and adaptability inspired by the strength of the environments around them (see Beauty’s Nature-Focused Future).
