We launched Stylus Changemakers in 2020 to celebrate and support the next generation of creators and innovators who are making a difference and driving positive change. In this series of interviews, we sit down with our class of 2022 to uncover more about them and their businesses, and hear about their experience of being a Stylus Changemaker this year.

Founded by makeup artist Jessica Blackler, 2022 Changemaker Jecca Blac is a cruelty-free and gender-free makeup brand, whose mission is to represents all beauty lovers: all expressions, genders, sexualities, abilities, pronouns, shapes, and sizes.

In this interview, Stylus’ head of Beauty, Lisa Payne, speaks with Jessica about how she founded the brand, the importance of their community, and how they create and develop products.

“I started to do freelance makeup, […] I had a request from someone that was early in their transition, and wanted makeup lessons, and was very new to makeup. So, I started with that one client and then I realised, actually, there was a need for it after that client gave me insight into their journey with makeup.”

Watch the interview below:

“I’ve […] used [Stylus] when presenting to investors, a lot around the opportunities [that exist], and where we should be focusing. […] The articles [and reports] have been really helpful in building case studies for that, and strategies around the business.”
