Web Summit 2025: Ambitious Energy & Green Tech Innovation

Among the many start-ups exhibiting at Web Summit 2025 (Vancouver, May 27-30), some of the most notable spotlighted innovative solutions to make alternative energy more accessible to consumers. From nimble electric vehicle (EV) charging to self-cleaning solar panels, we share three notable companies to watch.
- Kiwi’s Autonomous EV Charging Robot: Toronto-based Kiwi Charge offers an autonomous EV charging robot, intended for multi-tenant buildings with parking lots where EV-owning residents may otherwise struggle to find charging points, especially if they rely on publicly accessible chargers. Using computer vision, the robot can move from car to car, identify the ones that need to be charged and plug them into power, all without requiring human interaction. EV owners can monitor their car’s charging progress through an app that allows them to track the average time it takes to charge their vehicle and how much range they have left.
- WirelessPNC’s Subtle Streetside Chargers: Targeting electric micromobility, like e-scooters and e-bikes, Canadian company WirelessPNC makes wireless charging pads that can be installed on city streets. The charging pads start automatically, topping up an e-bike’s or e-scooter’s battery when they pass over the surface. If installed at scale in cities, WirelessPNC argues that its tech could make electric micromobility fleets easier for third-party rental services to maintain. Currently, companies must regularly take e-bikes and e-scooters to a separate location to be charged.
- Swish’s Self-Cleaning Solar Panels: Ontario-based start-up Swish produces self-cleaning solar panels, which aim to increase the overall amount of energy that a solar array harvests annually. The panels automatically clean off debris that would interfere with energy generation – such as leaves, snow and sand – making them suitable for both cold regions, like Canada, and warmer ones, such as Saudi Arabia (where sandstorms are an issue)
