Image-sharing platform Pinterest has revealed its latest Pinterest Predicts report, which uses search term data to identify emerging aesthetic trends. With the platform’s 482 million monthly active users harnessing the site to plan home renovations and gather décor inspiration, its report provides valuable insights on what consumers will be buying and how they will style their homes in 2024.

  • Statement Kitchens: Kitchens are set to become a key focus in 2024. The Kitschens trend highlights a growing demand for eclectic, colourful spaces, with a marked rise in searches for “eccentric kitchen” (+160%), “kitschy kitchen” (+75%) and “retro pink kitchens” (+40%). Consumers are also keen to spruce up their coffee stations, with Cafécore reporting an increase in “coffee bar styling” (+1,125%) and “coffee station décor” (+145%). These figures chime with The Future Kitchen 24/25, which explores how joyful colours and outspoken designs characterise new kitchens.

  • Daring Décor: Interiors are predicted to be similarly bold. Playful mash-up Western Gothic suggests that moody palettes are lending fresh appeal to Americana-inspired pieces, with terms “western gothic” and “vintage Americana” both seeing +145% growth in popularity (read Teen Bedroom Showcase 23/24 for more Gen Z interior trends). Elsewhere, the Hot Metals trend, which describes a heightened demand for “aluminium furniture” (+45%) and “aluminium door design” (+70%) aligns with the industrial look that dominated Milan Design Week 2023.

  • Underwater Inspiration: Akin to our Autumn/Winter 25/26 Colour & Material Direction Odyssey, oceanic creatures are inspiring product development. The Be Jelly trend recorded a 95% rise in searches for “jellyfish lamp”. Meanwhile, aquatic pets are gaining favour, with Aquatecture citing an increase in “fish tank themes ideas” (+410%), “small aquarium design” (+245%) and “turtle terrarium ideas” (+135%).

  • Sustainable Crafts: Interest in creative upcycling and DIY crafts shows no sign of slowing, with Give a Scrap reporting a surge in “small scrap wood projects DIY” (+1,220%), “craft work with waste material” (+140%) and “scrap quilts patterns leftover fabric” (+80%).
