Day 1:

Hello from the Stylus team at Milan Design Week. Milan Design Week is a synergy of creativity and commerce which materialises in dynamic installations and inspired collections. Here brands reconnect with their artistic roots and visionary designers demonstrate their business acumen. It's this convergence of the commercial and experimental that makes it an event like no other. We're here all week checking out the latest in design for the home, hospitality and the workplace. We'll be posting daily videos with the most important trends, innovations and commercial opportunities that you need to know about. So be sure to check back with us every day for all your Milan Design Week insights and inspirations.

Day 2:

Today we found out what colour sounds like. I'm Tessa Mansfield with the Stylus team at Milan Design Week. We started the day with Google in their immersive colour installation. Described as a journey from the ethereal to the material, we moved through spaces designed to explore what colour sounds like, smells like, or even tastes like, and from the ethereal to new materials. We headed over to Alcova, the creative powerhouse which is held this year at the Villa Bagatti Valsecchi. There we saw experimentation in new fabrications of wood, clay and metal and the key themes of brutalism, eclecticism and maximalism. Here too we enjoyed some of the creative spectacles that Milan is known for. We’re posting from Milan Design Week daily so check back in for more inspiration and insight.

Day 3:

Today we immersed in textures, materials and craft. I’m Lauren Chiu with the Stylus team at Milan Design Week. Day three was all about the salon trade show where 185 brands from 35 countries came to display the latest furniture, lighting and home accessories. Sustainability was high on the agenda - we saw furniture with their own material passports as well as booths that can be easily deconstructed for a lower environmental impact. In terms of material innovation, new launches that caught our eye included hand formed recycled glass, palm fibres, and a paper based composite that can be returned to the earth. Elsewhere, we admired rugs made with handcrafted techniques such as embroidery, crochet, chain stitching and hand tufting. We're posting from Milan Design Week daily so check back in for more insight and inspiration.

Day 4:

Hi, my name's Ima Shah with the Stylus team at Milan Design Week on day four. Today was about brand activations in the Brera Design District. We were visiting the likes of Gucci, Porsche and Hermes. Spaces were both immersive and iconic, designed to inspire and delight visitors. A highlight of today's excursions was Porsche's Lines of Flight at the beautiful Palazzo Clerici. The space provided an impressive backdrop to an immersive social sculpture in the form of a community hammock. Nostalgia was also a reoccurring theme. Spaces felt comforting, cocooning, and oddly claustrophobic. This is the fourth video in our series for Milan Design Week with more to come. Check out the rest of our series on our Instagram page.

Day 5:

I'm Chloe Frost with the Stylus team at Milan Design Week and we're now on our way home after a brilliant 5 days of visiting almost 100 installations and activations across the city. This year's presentations indulged our senses, inviting us to not only see but touch, smell and listen. We were also inspired by playfully modular designs, thoughtful craft and clever uses of waste materials. We're ready to turn research into commercial insights for Stylus members across a suite of four reports that we publish on the Stylus website next week. We'll see you again soon.
