Airbnb’s Phantom-of-the-Opera-Themed Stay
Published 02 March 2023
Globally, 39% of travellers have booked trips to destinations seen in films or TV shows (Expedia, 2022). To celebrate The Phantom of the Opera musical being performed in 15 countries in 2023, as well as its final stint on Broadway, Airbnb is inviting two guests to stay in the Palais Garnier, the 1875-opened Parisian theatre that inspired the original French novel, for one night only.
Guests will sleep in the Box of Honour, which has been transformed into a lavish red-and-gold-infused bedroom. As one of the venue’s most exclusive private viewing areas, the spot boasts sweeping views of the theatre’s stage and extravagant architecture.
The once-in-a-lifetime experience includes a tour of the Palais Garnier’s private dance studios and hidden areas, such as the famed underground lake. Guests will also enjoy a private ballet initiation, an exclusive recital performed by Paris Opera Academy artists, and a meal in the Foyer de la Danse – a historic dancing rehearsal room behind the stage.
In keeping with Airbnb’s commitment to heritage tourism, the booking site is supporting the restoration of the Palais Garnier’s boxes, as well as funding the theatre’s new streaming platform.
Costing €37 ($39.26) for the night – a nod to the Box of Honours number – theatre fans can attempt to secure the booking on March 1, with the stay taking place on July 16.
