Hotels Support & Celebrate Marathon Runners

As one of the fastest-growing tourism markets, the global sports tourism sector amounted to $587.87bn in 2022 (Grand View Research). Following the recent TCS London Marathon (23 April), taken on by more than 48,000 participants, we spotlight two global hotel brands supporting runners as they prepare – and recover from – marathons worldwide.
British hotel group Yotel has launched its Marathon Pit Stop package at 11 of its properties in major cities – including London, New York and Porto – that host the most popular marathons worldwide. It includes healthy treats for refuelling, flip-flops for tired feet and a 25% discount for onsite post-race dining and drinks, offered to those with a finisher medal. Marathon supporters receive a portable charger and a Make Your Own Banner kit.
Elsewhere, American hotel chain Westin Hotels & Resorts has partnered with Abbott World Marathon Majors – a competition of six major marathon races taking place in Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York City – on tailored experiences for runners and their supporters. As well as hosting pre- and post-run training and recovery sessions, select Westin hotels in the marathon cities provide equipment loans (for recovery and total body strength training) and on-the-go snacks for fuelling up on race day. Meanwhile, supporters can create personalised signage at an onsite poster designing station.
