Alice Leeburn,
Rebecca HobbsGlobal beauty sales are forecast to rise by 5% annually, reaching $590bn by 2030 (McKinsey, 2026). We decode the strategies that resonate: next-gen flagships delivering hyper-personalised products, performance-proving playgrounds for climate-attuned cosmetics, farm-to-face boxes and ritualistic seasonal beauty activations, including culinary experiences, artificial intelligence (AI)-created regimens combatting beauty burnout, ethical alternatives to medi-aesthetics, diagnostics-boasting haircare hubs and beauty festivals for aspiring pros.
The personalised beauty market is booming (see below). Brands are betting on next-gen flagships to deliver instant made-to-order formulas, backed by advanced AI diagnostics, which capture skin qualities and ensure accuracy for custom colour cosmetics. The best spaces go beyond clinical excellence by boasting a seductive element of retail theatre.

Amidst escalating extreme weather conditions, the global climate-adaptive beauty market is predicted to grow rapidly (see below). Brands are responding to demand for science-backed, humidity- and temperature-attuned formulas by showcasing product performance in interactive, sensory-rich retail experiences and pop-up microclimate testing zones.
Innovative brands are appealing to the True Naturalists beauty consumer cohort by building on an already rich relationship with the food industry – see Sensorial Beauty for more. Tactics include adopting farm-to-face messaging amidst growing interest in the increased product potency that seasonality can achieve, ritualising product releases around seasonal events and establishing cosmetics-inspired culinary destinations.
Appealing to our Burnout Beaters beauty consumer cohort, who want to build effective skincare routines but are overwhelmed by choice, some brands are integrating generative AI beauty advice that delivers tailored combinations of beauty products via large language model (LLM)-integrated apps, such as ChatGPT or Claude, and boundary-pushing in-store diagnostic tech.
The beauty industry is currently navigating a complex cultural shift towards anxiety-fuelled toxic perfectionism, including men’s looksmaxxing (see Pop Culture Trend Drop) and widespread use of non-surgical tweakments. Rather than ignoring or exploiting insecurities, responsible retailers are acknowledging optimisation mindsets by rerouting consumers towards medi-aesthetic alternatives like ‘softmaxxing’, sculpting facials and soundscapes designed to counter cosmeticorexia (obsession over flawless skin).
Haircare is one of beauty’s fastest-growing categories (see below). Increasing consumer appetites for scalp health and functional formulas see retailers dialling up high-tech in-store diagnostics, while zen-like spaces tap into ancient rituals. Elsewhere, festival activations style artists and attendants alike, and DIY (do-it-yourself) remedy-inspired brands reflect the communities they originate from with accessible, affordable activations.
Building on last year’s Pathway to Pro theme in Beauty Retail Strategies 25-27, beauty influencer content is inspiring a generation of would-be professionals, with beauty education enrolment rising (see below). Brands are building direct bonds with this growing cohort at brand-backed, ticketed beauty fan fests and conventions, as well as via free services at music festivals (see Haircare Hubs, above), offering product previews and masterclasses that enable visitors to learn from founders, stylists and dermatologists.
