At a time when nostalgia is strong currency in consumer product (from food to fashion and beyond), beauty brands are taking to the archives and placing a commercial bet on discontinued favourites. We round up the best examples of iconic products returning to market, giving consumers the opportunity to rediscover cherished and sought-after creations.
- Lush: British beauty brand Lush has reintroduced 45 discontinued fan favourites in-store, including cult bathing products, original scents and skincare staples. Featured in the line-up are the Space Girl, Phoenix Rising and Fizzbanger bath bombs, alongside the brand’s iconic first ever bath bomb, Blackberry. In skincare, the 9 to 5 cleanser with fresh phalaenopsis has been brought back for sensitive skins, while beloved bodycare buys like the Shimmy Shimmy massage bar also make a reappearance.
In addition, treasured favourites from The Body Shop (UK) have been reformulated in a new archive collection of skin and hair products dubbed The Lush Version. As a homage to The Body Shop’s iconic 90s body butters – which were actually invented by Lush’s co-founders – they’ve been recreated under latter’s own name. - Diptyque: French luxury fragrance house Diptyque launched an archive sale of scents from the past, enabling consumers to shop their favourites that no longer exist – from limited editions to seasonal aromas. Candles and perfumes on offer included the Citrouille (Pumpkin) Classic Candle, its signature Do Son Eau De Parfum in an original eye-catching blue bottle, and holiday-edition scented candles.
- Urban Decay: US make-up brand Urban Decay released a limited-edition version of its legendary Original Naked Eyeshadow Palette. It features the same iconic everyday neutral shades, but with a new and improved (vegan) formula for easier blending and longer-lasting pigment. The fan favourite features ultra-smooth mattes, glimmering metallics, velvety satins and beautiful shimmers, all formulated with Urban Decay’s wet slurry technology for multidimensional shine.
