German luggage company Rimowa has joined forces with American fashion designer Rick Owens to create a limited-edition run of its Original Cabin suitcases. Launching on January 30, the collection features Rimowa’s first fully leather interior.

Blending the unique DNA of each brand, the Origin Cabin Bronze sees Rimowa’s iconic aluminium case reimagined in Owens’ signature avant-garde industrial minimalist style. Finished using a combination of anodisation and manual pigment application, each of the 500 numbered pieces features a one-of-a-kind bronzed patina that will deepen and evolve over time.

The interior sees Rimowa’s Flex Divider and lining crafted from calf leather, while each case includes a hair-on cowskin address tag. Speaking of his inspiration for the collaboration, Owens said: “I wanted the outside finish to recall a bronze from Giacometti, Brâncuşi or Richard Serra, and I wanted the interior to feel like the touch of a black leather glove.”

With the luxury sector accounting for 39% of revenue in the luggage market (Statista, 2024), this style-savvy collaboration sees LVMH-owned Rimowa tapping into the cult-like fan base that Owens has amassed amongst luxury fashion consumers. This follows other collaborations from the luggage brand, including with British artist Ptolemy Mann and German musical instrument manufacturer Gewa.
