As part of its annual trend projections for 2025, Pinterest has predicted that an array of dreamlike celebratory centrepieces, creative takes on soda and novel sour flavours will permeate the food and beverage landscape. We highlight the five key takeaways.
- Surreal Soirées: Gen Xers and boomers will transform their tablescapes with touches of modern surrealism. Pinterest notes an increase in searches for ‘cake bouquet flowers’ (+30%), ‘strawberry centrepiece ideas’ (+50%) and ‘dinner party tablescapes’ (+55%). This ties in with our findings on elaborate, aesthetic-specific dinner parties in The Evolved Entertaining Landscape.
- Rebel Floats: Gen Zers and millennials are set to give soda pop recipes a refresh. From September 2022 to August 2024, Pinterest searches for ‘fruit soda’ (+185%), ‘cream soda aesthetic’ (+105%) and ‘soda drinks recipes’ (+90%) all swelled.
- Pickle Fix: Pickles in novel, sweet and savoury forms will entice Gen Xers and millennials. Pinterest has already logged an uptick in searches for ‘pickle margarita’ (+100%), ‘fried pickle dip’ (+80%) and ‘pickle de gallo’ (+65%). This is a trend we have been tracking for some time; for our most recent take, read Future Flavours Forecast 24/25.
- Chaos Cakes: Boomers and Gen Xers will bring fun back into baking with the ‘silly cake’ (+115%) and themed cakes, including the ‘rat cake’, which saw a 170% increase in searches. Meanwhile, ‘funny bento cake design’ has also seen more interest, with 60% growth. For similarly offbeat cake creations, read Sector Outlook 24/25: Bakery.
- Cherry-Coded: Pinterest predicts that in 2025, cherries will take centre stage in fashion, make-up and menus. Terms like ‘cherry vibe’ (+325%), ‘dark cherry red’ (+235%) and ‘cherry martini’ (+80%) are on the rise.
