Jewellery Goes Hyper-Natural for S/S 23
Published 12 June 2023
Confirming key visual trends from our S/S 2023 Fashion Direction Trip, brands spanning luxury and high-street level are looking to nature for jewellery inspiration – albeit a fantastical and softly psychedelic interpretation.
Austria’s Swarovski recently launched its Metamorphosis collection for S/S 23, which perfectly embodies the joyful exuberance and experimental nature of Trip. Blooming flowers – all worked in slightly unnatural and vibrant brights – form the basis of the collection, which is rounded out by kitschy yet decadently embellished butterflies, turtles, cockatoos and pineapples. The mystery and wonder of the natural world is amped-up and celebrated, walking the line between the real and the unreal.
French brand Van Cleef & Arpels takes a similar approach for this season, merging statement floral pieces with hyperreal butterfly motifs.

Meanwhile, US giant Tiffany & Co. explores life under the sea with its S/S 23 Out of the Blue collection, which features fantastical, glittering renditions of everything from shells and coral to jellyfish. Water-based nature references will continue to hold huge commercial appeal this year following the release of Disney’s The Little Mermaid.

It’s resonating on a mass-market level, too. Spanish high-street giant Zara’s latest collection includes oversized, psychedelic, and rhinestone-studded floral necklaces that have shoppers buzzing on TikTok. The collection also includes shell jewellery worked in playful, bejewelled brights.
