Published 24 April 2023

With rave culture making a triumphant post-pandemic comeback as Gen Zers look to make up for lost time on the dance floor, brands creating cool club-ready clothing are more in demand than ever. We highlight six rising stars shaping the modern club kid uniform to keep on your radar.

Nihl

Aiming to subvert the gendered boundaries and binaries that coloured his Midwestern upbringing, New York-based designer Neil Grotzinger’s Nihl presents a sensual, euphoric depiction of modern masculinity. Skintight tops and bodysuits worked in sexy sheers and spandex – or featuring a myriad of risqué cut-outs – both celebrate and eroticise the male body, while sequins, beading and taffeta add a more flirtatious edge.

Dominnico

It’s no secret that motorsports are currently having a huge moment in fashion, but Spanish label Dominnico is bringing the racetrack onto the dance floor in a provocative and sartorially disruptive way. Traditional leather-laden biker get-ups are slashed into hardware-heavy miniskirts and barely there crop tops, while fluid, silky jerseys and figure-hugging spandex – worked in a palette of bold, synthetic brights – round out this rave-ready wardrobe.

Florentina Leitner

Bringing a jubilant, nymph-like femininity to clubwear, Antwerp’s Florentina Leitner uses naïve florals, saccharine styling and a Y2K edge for her distinctive woodland rave aesthetic. Despite largely skintight silhouettes and skin-baring hemlines, the pieces never seem risqué or overly sexy, instead being party-appropriate in a more celebratory and gleeful way thanks to expert layering and attention-grabbing print and pattern choices. The designs also have a vaguely sci-fi feel, as shimmering sequins and sleek metals add extra intrigue.

Fancì Club

If there’s one youth-focused occasionwear brand to know this summer, it’s Fancì Club. The Vietnamese label has already dressed a flurry of notable it girls, including Doja Cat, Bella Hadid and Addison Rae, and enjoyed viral TikTok fame thanks to its lust-worthy ruffled dresses and slinky silhouettes. The brand manages to balance hyper-sexy partywear – think waist-cinching corsets, ultra-tiny miniskirts and navel-grazing necklines – with a cute, girly sheen by way of naïve bows, pastels, satins and ruffles, making it a perfect option for daytime-to-dance-floor lifestyles.

Celia Calderón Asensio

London-based, Madrid-born designer and Central Saint Martins graduate Celia Calderón Asensio is a garment dyeing master. Each of her one-of-a-kind knit pieces are hand-dyed, resulting in new and unique patterns every time. Her form-fitting tights and bodysuits are not only dance floor essentials, but they’re tie-dyed in psychedelic colours that mimic naturally occurring blooms and formations and are sure to look equally great at home as under a strobe light. Having already worked with Kim Kardashian’s Skims on a limited-edition capsule, Asensio is definitely one to watch.

Maroske Peech

With a playfully nostalgic look that puts a retrospectively grown-up spin on mall culture and the fashion that arose from it (think a hyper-sexy and vaguely punk-influenced Lizzie McGuire), Maroske Peech brings a kitschy, exuberantly experimental perspective to the function. The Melbourne-based brand - whose quirky but super-versatile pieces are favourites of Euphoria costume designer Heidi Bivens as well as American popstar Caroline Polachek - reimagines classic 90s and 00s silhouettes for the outlandish and expressive landscape of a new generation. Its signature dresses and tops with built-in bags also make for a pragmatic party piece.
